A consortium of seventy-four advocacy, legal, and faith-based organizations across the nation has expressed concerns regarding the withholding of $88 million in government funds earmarked for victims of modern slavery.

As stated in a joint letter, the DOJ has frozen funding for more than 100 assistance organizations that aid survivors escape their traffickers and secure crucial support like safe accommodation, mental health support, and guidance.

"Letting such resources to vanish would allow exploitation to flourish and put survivors’ lives at risk," the communication emphasizes. "Various communities will lack their primary support network, leaving survivors with nowhere to turn for shelter."

The alliance is asking legislators to encourage the administration to reinstate the funding to safeguard thousands of affected individuals nationwide.
